MASSIVE PRAYER REQUEST

My new nephew...hopefully?


Here's the deal. Chris is from Haiti Children's Home. The orphanage that I went to over last Christmas. I feel in love with this egghead and now my sister and brother in law, want to adopt him. They have been approved by the Canadian Government but it has yet to go to the Haitian government. Here's the problem. The Haitian government has decided to change their adoption restriction...a couple must be married for 10 years, be 35 AND not have any biological children of their own. Heather and Ron have 2 beautiful girls of their own...which means that the file has to get to the Haitian government before the end of the year. (remember Christmas is in there and this is a 3rd World Country). Chris is 8 - this means that his chance of adoption is exceedingly slim because more people want younger children.

So I'm asking for prayer for 2 things.

1) That the files will get to the Haitian Government on time. Not only for Chris, but there are other children as well. 4 from HCH alone. there are hundreds of other orphanages in the same boat.

2) That the government will change its mind. The situation in Haiti is horrible. The food prices have sky-rocketed which means that it is very difficult for people to get food. And, there was severe flooding due to the hurricane season. When there were riots has year the stats were that 80% of the population lived on under $2 a day. 50% lived in less than a dollar. It has come to the attention of social services that there is an area where there is complete destitution. 50 children have already died from starvation. Parents are selling their children for the equivalent of $25 to feed the rest of the family. They are hoping to have Haiti Children's Home take in 70 children who are suffering from starvation and malnutrition. (that's a prayer request in and of itself - if you or anyone you know wants to help out with this in any way, let me know and I'll connect you to the right people). These people are absolutely impoverished and the government is now decided to make it more difficult by changing their adoption policies. Orphans are at huge risk for starvation and being sold as slaves (sex or otherwise). So yeah - please pray for the government itself.
